The choice to become a gestational carrier or a surrogate requires serious thought, commitment of time, energy, and emotion. To become a gestational carrier or a surrogate, there is initial screenings, interviews as well as medical and psychological testing. Gestational carriers and surrogates are customarily compensated on average between $20,000 and $30,000 for their time and effort. To be a Gestational Carrier or Surrogate, a woman is usually between 21 and 41 years of age (up to 35 for traditional surrogate), has had at least on child of her own with a normal pregnancy and delivery, is financially stable, does not have a criminal history, has the support of her family and others close to her for her decision to be a carrier/surrogate, has no serious medical problems, does not smoke, drink or use illegal substances, lives in a surrogacy friendly state and is willing to undergo medical and psychological evaluations and, if married, her husband must udergo the same type of tests.
